TCO15’s Open UI Design Competition will take place online between August 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 (“UI Design Competition”). The UI Design Competition will take place in four (4) online periods leading up to the onsite Tournament taking place in Yogyatarta, Indonesia September 21-22, 2015 at Eastparc Hotel. The UI Design Competition will consist of online qualifying competitions, with up to twelve (12) of the highest scoring Contestants across all four (4) periods (each a “Period” and collectively, the “UI Design Competition Period”) winning a trip to compete in the Onsite Championship as part of the onsite Tournament. Contestants are only eligible to win one trip to the onsite Tournament through the UI Design Competition and if the Contestant has already won a trip the UI Design Competition, the next highest scoring Contestant may win a trip if they have greater than 0 placement points in that Period.

The UI Design Competition is part of the Tournament, and by participating in this UI Design Competition, you agree to the rules including the topcoder Terms of Use.

During the UI Design Competition Period, Contestants who have registered for the Tournament no later than June 30, 2015 and who participate in Tournament-eligible UI Design contests, will receive points as outlined in these Rules. A Contestant’s submission will not be scored separately for the UI Design Competition. Only Tournament-eligible UI Design contests in which registration has started during the (4) Periods shall be included in determining points for the UI Design Competition. For the final Period, only Tournament-eligible UI Design contests which have started and ended during the Period shall be included in determining points for the UI Design Competition.

Period 1 August 01, 2014 - September 30, 2014
Period 2 October 01, 2014 - December 31, 2014
Period 3 January 01, 2015 - March 31, 2015
Period 4 April 01, 2015 - June 30, 2015

Onsite Rounds
The onsite round schedule (part of the onsite Tournament) will be made available at a later date. In the event that an Onsite Round may not be held at the UI Designated time for any reason, it will be begin the following day at the same time and will continue for the same duration.

Scoring in the UI Design Competition and each Period is determined based on the final placement for a Contestant’s submission in a Tournament-eligible UI Design contest in accordance with the rules of such Competition. A UI Design contest is Tournament-eligible if the Competition is identified by topcoder as being included as part of the Tournament . All Submissions will be screened per topcoder policies. Submissions that fail screening will not be eligible for placement points in the UI Design Competition. Only Contestants who are registered for the Tournament will be considered in determining place and placement points. Placement scoring is as follows:

Highest Scoring Registered Contestant 11 Points
Second Highest Scoring Registered Contestant 9 Points
Third Highest Scoring Registered Contestant 7 points
Fourth Highest Scoring Registered Contestant 4 Points
Fifth Highest Scoring Registered Contestant 1 Point

Upon the completion of all Tournament-eligible UI Design contests in a Period, all of the individual placement scores that a Contestant receives during that Period will be added for a cumulative placement score for the Period. Up to three (3) Contestants with the highest cumulative placement score during each Period will advance to the Onsite Championship (“Onsite UI Design Contestants”). Up to twelve (12) total Contestants from the four (4) Periods will advance to compete in the Onsite Championship.

In the event of a tie, the tie will be resolved in the following manner:

  • The tied Contestant who has the most 1st place submissions in Tournament-eligible UI Design contests within the Period shall advance.
  • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied Contestant who has the most 2nd place submissions in Tournament-eligible UI Design contests within the Period shall advance.
  • If a tie still remains, then all remaining tied Contestants will advance.

Example:

Any and all applicable taxes on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prizewinner.
