    Rules

    The Rules

The 2015 Topcoder Open Development Competition (“Development Competition”) will take place between August 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015. The Development Competition will take place in four (4) online periods (each a “Period” and collectively, the “Development Competition Period”). The Development Competition will include the following tracks of competition: Code, Component Design, Component Development, Assembly, Testing Scenarios, and Testing Suites. Tracks included in this competition can be added or removed at Topcoder’s sole discretion. The Development Competition will consist of online qualifying competitions, with up to three (3) of the highest scoring Contestants from each of the online periods winning a trip to the TCO15 main event which will take place at the Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA from November 8-10, 2015. Not all development competitions on the Topcoder website are Tournament-eligible and Topcoder shall determine at its sole discretion which Development Competitions are Tournament-eligible. Contestants are only eligible to win one trip to the onsite Tournament through the Development Competition and if a Contestant who wins a trip to the onsite Tournament pursuant to the Development Competition has already won a trip to the onsite Tournament, the next highest scoring Contestant will win the trip.

The Development Competition is part of the Tournament, and by participating in the Development Competition, you agree to the rules on this web page as well as the Tournament rules and the Topcoder Terms of Use (collectively, the “Rules”).

    Schedule

During each Period, Contestants who participate in Tournament-eligible Development Competitions on the Topcoder website will receive points for that Period as outlined in these Rules. Only Tournament-eligible Development Competitions in which registration has opened during the four (4) Periods shall be included in determining points for that Period.

    Competition Scoring

Scoring in the Development Competition is determined based on the final ranking for a Contestant’s submission in a Tournament-eligible Development Competition (as applicable) in accordance with the rules of such competition.

Placement scoring mirrors the Digital Run placement scoring, and is as follows (where Placement Points for a contest equal the first place prize that contest offers).

(Scores will be rounded to two decimal places.)

Upon the completion of all Tournament-eligible Development Competitions, the individual scores that a Contestant receives during all Periods will be added for a cumulative score.

    Percentage of Placement Points

    # of Submissions that Pass Review:

    Place 1 2 3 4 5
    1st 100% 70% 65% 60% 56%
    2nd 30% 25% 22% 20%
    3rd 10% 10% 10%
    4th 8% 8%
    5th 6%

If more than five (5) submissions pass review, the competitors who place in 6th position or below will not receive any placement points.

All final fixes will be completed according to the schedule specified for the applicable Development Competition. On a case-by-case basis, as determined by Topcoder personnel, placement points may be deducted for failing to complete final fixes on time.

    Placement/Advancement

During each Period up to three (3) Contestants with the highest cumulative placement score in Tournament-eligible Development Competitions for that Period will be invited to attend the onsite Tournament.

In the event of a tie for a Period, the tie will be resolved in the following manner:

    • The tied Contestant with the highest number of first place submissions will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition in that Period.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied Contestant with the highest number of second place submissions will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition in that Period.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied Contestant with the highest number of third place submissions will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition in that Period.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied Contestant with the highest number of fourth place submissions will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition in that Period.
    • If a tie still remains, then all remaining tied Contestants will receive the same placement.

In the event of a tie for prize money, the tie will be resolved in the following manner:

    • The tied Contestant with the highest number of first place submissions across the Development Competition Period will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied Contestant with the highest number of second place submissions across the Development Competition Period will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied competitor with the highest number of third place submissions across the Development Competition Period will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition.
    • If a tie still remains, then the remaining tied competitor with the highest number of fourth place submissions across the Development Competition Period will receive a higher placement in the Development Competition.
    • If a tie still remains, then prizes will be divided equally between tied Contestants.
